Accessibility statement
How this website is built to work for you, what does not work as well as it should yet, and how to tell me if something gets in your way.
Last updated: 30 September 2026
What I am aiming for
I want everyone who visits this website to be able to use it, whether you read it on a phone, zoom in to make the text bigger, use a keyboard instead of a mouse, or have it read aloud by a screen reader. The standard I am working to is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, which is the level most UK organisations aim for.
What you can expect
You can move around every page with a keyboard alone. The first thing you reach when you press Tab is a link that takes you straight to the main content, so you do not have to go through the menu every time.
You can zoom in to 200% and beyond, and the text rearranges itself to fit your screen, so you will not need to scroll sideways to read a line.
The text is large, the lines are well spaced, and links are underlined, so they do not rely on colour alone.
If your device is set to reduce motion, the site respects that and keeps movement to a minimum.
Photographs carry a description for screen readers, and purely decorative images are hidden from them.
There are no videos or sound recordings on the site, so captions and transcripts do not apply at the moment. If I add any, they will have captions.
Nothing tracks you until you say so. The cookie banner lets you choose 'Essential only' or accept analytics, and you can change your mind at any time with the 'Cookie choices' link at the bottom of every page. The map on the contact page only loads if you ask it to.
What does not work as well as it should yet
The site was checked against WCAG 2.2 AA in September 2026, with automated tools and by hand: with a keyboard, at different zoom levels and in Windows contrast themes. Every problem that check found has now been fixed, including the cookie banner at high zoom, the logo and menu in contrast themes, the keyboard outline, the form boxes and reaching the menu's close button with the Tab key.
The site has not yet been tested by someone who uses a screen reader every day. Automated checks are useful, but they are not the same thing, and I would rather tell you that than claim more than I know.
If something gets in your way
Please tell me. You do not need to know the technical name for the problem, just what you were trying to do and what happened.
You can email me at sally@yorkshiregardendesigner.co.uk, or call me on 01904 623343 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm). I will reply within two working days, and if you need something from the site in a different way, ask and I will do what I can to help.
